We continue our review of some of the swinger dating sites. Today we review AdultFriendFinder.com (AFF)
In this review of Swinger Dating Sites, I will look at adultfriendfinder.com or AFF, also known as sexfinder.com. It is definitely one of the better known sites and we have been a member of this site for several years now and have had many meet ups through the site.
AFF offer a free (basic) tier membership so you can use site without having to make a payment, however, this article will review the paid membership experience of the site.
I will break down the review into the following sections:
- Number and Quality of Swingers on the site
- User Interface
- Performance and Availability
- Site Features/Services
- Geographical Distribution of Members
- Cost
- Conclusion
Number and Quality of Swingers on this site
AFF probably has more members overall and in more locations than most of the other sites but contains a lot of fake profiles.
You get a lot of attention on this site, and we receive a lot of emails and flirts, however, there are very few ‘couples’ that will actually go further than sending an email to ask for pictures.
Although we have had the most meet ups through AFF, we have also had to go through and filter out a lot of fakes to get those meet ups.
User Interface
AFF has one of the nicer ‘user interfaces’ and layouts of the three sites we use regularly in my opinion.
I find it easy to find my way around the site and find what I want. Their home page has links to the most used features and a short list of online profiles that meet your search criteria.
There are one or two problem areas, but I will deal with these later in their own sections
Performance and Availability
The site is fast to load and we are happy with the reliability and availability of the site and it’s features.
Features
Activity Stream
Located on the home page this is one of the better and more useful implementations of an activity stream.
You can filter so you only see activity local to you or if you only want to see the activity of the profiles of your friends and hotlist.
The email functionality is nice, simple to use and is fairly well implemented.
You can request a ‘read’ receipt if you use some ‘points’ and each of the conversation threads is easy to follow unlike on some of the other sites.
However there isn’t a ‘sent’ email view and the only way to tell if you have emailed somebody until they email you back is to go to their profile and look on the ‘interactions in the last 30 days’ link.
Blogs/Forums/Advice Lines
The Advice Lines and Blogs sections are very well implemented and it is easy to moderate the comments on your posts.
The Advice Lines seems to be run quite well and the majority of the answers are none judgmental and helpful answers.
The blog seem very popular and seem to get a lot of views/comments.
Search
The search location filter is one of the better implemented ones and we definitely get more geographically relevant profiles with this.
This is one of the functionalities that does sometimes go a bit faulty but usually not for long.
The home page shows a small selection of online profiles that meet your saved search criteria, however, if you hover over a profile for more than a couple of seconds, the user is alerted to you ‘viewing’ their profile.
Chat Rooms
There are regional chat rooms, very localised for the US, but for other areas the chat room is as broad as ‘South East Asia’.
There are chat rooms for certain topics such as ‘BBW Room’ and ‘Cybersex Room’.
There are also some general chat rooms such as ‘Hot Tub’ and a male only and a female only room called ‘Bath House’ and ‘Sauna’ respectively.
I have only used the chat rooms briefly but have noticed that the more people in the chat the more confusing the chat gets, and the refresh can be a bit jarring, but it is reasonably well implemented.
Also I have noticed there can be more single men on the chat than couples or single women.
Instant Messenger
This is very nice to use and well implemented.
You get notified of any incoming messages and can chose whether to reject with a set response or accept and chat.
There is also a separate tab for any profiles on your friends list so you can see them easily.
You can filter who you see online which is helpful but you have to use your settings to block any individuals messaging you.
Points
Every time you log in or perform certain actions like comment on a blog post you gain points, you can build up enough points to ‘buy’ certain features like ‘highlight your profile’ for a month, ‘request read receipt’ or ‘upgrade to Gold Membership’ for a month.
Contests
They hold regular photo contests for which the prize is Gold Membership for a period of time depending on where you place in the contest.
Mobile App
It only has a mobile app for iPhones not Android.
The other option you have is to use the mobile friendly version of the website.
Geographical Distribution of Members
There are many couples in our area (Asia), there also seems to be plenty of couples in most parts of the world but do shout out in the comments below how well covered your area is by AFF.
According to the site, at the time of this post, there are over 68 million members.
What matters to us though is not how many people have signed up but how many are active and are genuine couples who are willing to meet up.
Cost
You can get a free membership but paid goes from USD $19 per month (6mth package) for Gold Membership – $41 per month for VIP Membership (correct at the time of writing but prices may have changed now).
The value will depend on how many quality couples you can find in your area.
Conclusion
In conclusion we find AFF easy to use. It has many features such as the Activity Stream, Blogs and Advice Lines that are useful and easy to use.
In general, the couples that we do actually meet from this site are genuine but you do have to go through more fakes and flakes and filter those out more than on other sites.
We can and do recommend AFF to other swinger couples, but with the understanding that there are a lot of fakes on there!
- Are you a member of AFF?
- Do you agree/disagree with my comments?
